coop dreams.

I dream about our chickens. I don’t know if I worry about them, am excited about eggs, or what the deal is, but I dream funny dreams about them.

I might be losing my mind, but it’s still fun in here. :/

Oh, and a funny story. Hank overhead Enrique, one of the crew, on his first day on our job call the contractor, panicking. The chickens were standing on top of their small coop and sitting on the fence in our backyard, and he was trying to shoo them all back in and off the fence. He was asking her how to get the chickens back in, afraid that he was going to lose them.

I almost peed my pants.

Meanwhile, back at the farm…

Hank is formulating what he wants our laying chickens’ coop to look like, while I have some ideas of my own. (The meat chickens will have a simple chicken tractor as their shelter; they’ll be male, so nesting boxes won’t be necessary.)

On the more practical side, I love the idea of having the chickens help turn over and fertilize the garden. Here are some ideas that incorporate that.

And then there are the fancy chicken houses. I just love these.

I think that we’re moving more in the direction of this, however.

Right now, Hank’s plan is to make the coop an extension of the pen and make their run extend out parallel to our garden, so we can have the chickens turn and fertilize our garden after growing season.

And I plan to name every last chicken. All 31 new ones. Heaven help me.

But P.S. This one really is my fave coop.
