How to spend a Saturday.
Sometimes we forget.
We forget that getting dirty and wading around in chilly water is really the best medicine for pretty much everything.
This morning, after two days of the Goldfish battling a moderate fever and feeling puny, Hank suggested that we go to the Farmers’ Market in Boulder, which is always fun. For adults. I suggested crawdad hunting, which he kind of rolled his eyes at, and I could tell that look. Hank had cabin fever. Our boy still had a real fever though, and I thought something a little more low-key would be good.
Hank was on board after a quick trip into Jax, however, especially after a conversation like this:
Jax guy: Can I help you find something?
Hank: Looking for something to catch crawdads.
Jax guy: We have crawdad traps…
Hank: Maybe something more active.
Jax guy: How about some minnow nets?
Hank: Sold.
And then we ended up here.
We parked. And then we got busy.
Hank went in on a scouting mission.
He had company pretty soon after that.
We kinda hit the jackpot. Good thing we brought our lucky bucket.
The little guy decided to be a rock hunter.
They don’t pinch.
Then Hank caught the big daddy crawdad. Holy mutha.
After filling the bucket three times and releasing them back into the creek twice, we decided to relocate a few to the creek a little closer to our house.
We loaded our bucket into the back of the truck, along with the wagon and a snack for the big daddy crawdad.
But by the time we had pulled up to another part of the creek nearer to home, we had a jail break on our hands.
That’s one wily grasshopper.
Hank had a couple of helpers for the walk down under the bridge.
One, in particular, was especially observant of what was happening.
He watched diligently…
And decided he wasn’t too keen on the whole idea of catch-and-release.
Oh gracious. It’s hard being the lone bug whisperer. Or crawdad watcher-overer, as it were.
This one was completely oblivious.
I think someone was feeling better by this point. It’s amazing what a little fresh air, sunshine, and creek water can do for a guy.
And what did he end up thinking?
That it was a pretty fun way to spend a Saturday morning after all.
Amen.
