The Fabulous Miss L.E.
We did it. It was very, very hard, but we did the right thing.
We gave Oscar the Yellow Spaz to a new home. He was a hunting dog. He was bred for it. It was a win-win for everybody, even though it hurt.
And we’re happy to report that his new hunter-owner is THRILLED with him and he sent us a picture of Oscar with his new buddy, a black lab, in matching red bandanas, both sitting like they were supposed to, just waiting to go fetch something.
He’s happy.
In the many months of mulling this over and searching for just the right new home for Oscar, we went through the traits of the perfect family dog for us.
A dog who can be inside.
A dog who won’t eat the kids’ toys.
A dog who is super sweet.
A dog who can go with us everywhere.
A dog who, well, will be a part of our family.
And here she is. Ellie.
She’s s six-month-oldish brown dog. That’s it. When we’re asked what kind of dog she is, we reply, “She’s a brown dog.”
But is she part Lab?
Dunno.
But she’s super sweet.
And she loves the boys. And they love her right back.
Yes, we’ve had a few accidents in the house. But those will clean and she is learning. Yes, she and Todd Helton the cat are working it out.
Yes, she’s a little unsure of being left alone, so we haven’t done it. And yes, she’s afraid of jumpropes so she pottied on the floor at the gym, but she was loved on afterward by the owner and she’ll get used to it.
And yes. She loves the boys’ bath time.
She’s curious but cautious, and really likes a drink of lavender bubbly water from the squirt toys.
She likes to help wash the boys’ backs.
And she likes to help clean up the toys from the tub.
And best of all…
he’s really happy.
